How Losing My Job Became the Biggest Blessing
"My wife and I have been attending CCV for 6 years. I’m the father of two beautiful girls, Georgie and Gwynnie. To dive right in, I lost my job last August.
As you can probably imagine, it felt like the end of the world. All these questions started filling my head…how will I provide? How will we survive? I started to feel somewhat useless as my career and moving up “the ladder” is what consumed me- it’s what fulfilled me. But man, I soon realized that I was looking for joy in all the wrong places and as weird as it might sound to some, losing my job ended up being the biggest blessing for my family.
Because I actually had the time, I joined a community group. I’ll be the first to admit, I didn’t really want to at first. I didn’t want to open up about my job situation and I was dealing with depression and anxiety (never publicly admitted it until now). But sometimes you just have to let go and let God take control.
I stepped out of my comfort zone and felt God take control of everything. As I shared my struggles with my group, it was like this load was lifted off my shoulders and I knew everything was going to be just fine. God had sent this good group of guys to come alongside me in a way I didn’t know I needed. This new outlook on life changed me. I was soon back to putting God first, along with my wife (my rock) and my daughters. My wife Cassie’s words, “I finally got my husband back.” Without her, the rest of my family, and this community group pushing me, I’m honestly not sure how I would have survived.
I encourage anyone who’s wrestling with the idea of joining a community group, DO IT.
Shout out to my boys from the Etiwanda Campus (Dibon, Steve, Dan, Isiah & Riley), to Pastor Jeff, Pastor Rory and the rest of the Staff who pour into our Church through the Word and continue to challenge me to be better - a better person, husband, Dad and ultimately to be more like Christ!
Career wise, I know that’ll come in time...God’s time, but until then my focus is on Jesus. He is good!”
